Tracking Method Installation Guide

Important! When installing your hurricane shutters
make sure your tracking is secured tightly to the outside
wall of the structure.
Installing the Top Channel (Header)
Step 1-
Take the Top Channel and mark 1" in from both ends
of the channel. Then mark every 12" inches. Drill
holes through marks with a 5/16 high speed drill bit.
Step 2-
Make a center mark about 3" above the top center
of the opening. Next, mark the center of the Top Channel.
Place the Top Channel directly above the opening and
align both marks. Make sure the header is level and
flush with the top of the opening and the overlap is
equal on each side.
Step 3
- While holding the Top Channel in place, make marks
through the centers of the pre-drilled holes on the
Top Channel. This will help you when you pre-drill the
holes to mount the Top Channel to the opening. It is
important to make sure these holes are aligned and level.
Step 4
- You can now set the Top Channel aside. Use the 3/16"
masonry drill bit to drill the marked holes about 1
1/2" deep. Make sure the drill stays on the mark
and is held level when drilling. Use a 1/8" drill
bit for wood structures.
Step 5
- Re-position the Top Channel on the wall where it was
marked. Insert a tap-con in through the Top Channel
into the pre-drilled holes until the tap-con seats flush
and securely with the channel and wall. Repeat this
step for all holes.
Installing the Bottom Channel
(Sill)
Step 1-
Take the Bottom Channel and mark 1" in from both
ends of the channel. Then mark every 12" inches.
Drill holes through marks with a 5/16" high speed
drill bit.
Step 2-
Take the first CLEAR Shutter and slide it up into the
Top Channel all the way. Then align the left side of
the panel with the left side of the Top Channel. Make
a pencil mark at the bottom of the CLEAR Shutter. Remove
the panel and make a second mark 1/4" above the
first mark. Repeat the procedure for the right side
of the opening.
Step 3
- Take the Bottom Channel and level it with the top
two marks that were made on each side. Mark through
to the wall in the centers of the pre-drilled holes
in the Bottom Channel. Hold the Bottom Channel level
on the marks to insure accurate marking.
Step 4
- Set the Bottom Channel aside. Use the 3/16" masonry
drill bit to drill the marked holes about 1 1/2"
deep. Make sure the drill stays on the mark and is held
level when drilling. Use a 1/8" drill bit for wood
structures.
Step 5
- Re-position the Top Channel on the wall where it was
marked. Insert a tap-con in through the Top Channel
into the pre-drilled holes until the tap-con seats flush
and securely with the channel and wall. Repeat this
step for all holes.
Installing Removable Channel
Step 1-
Take the Channel and mark 1" in from both ends
of the channel. Then mark every 12" inches. Drill
holes through marks with a 5/16" high speed drill
bit.
Step 2-
Place the track on the slab or surface and mark through
the pre-drilled holes. Set the track aside and drill
holes with a 3/8" combination masonry drill bit
about 1/2" deep in the surface.
Step 3
- Place lead anchors in holes and tap them with the
anchor set tool until they are below the surface so
the channel will mount flush.
Step 4
- Line up the holes in the channel with the lead anchors
and fasten with removable sidewalk bolts.
Installing CLEAR Shutters (Panels)
Step 1 -
If you are using H-Channel for the Top Channel, you
will not need to drill the top of the CLEAR Shutters.
Drill holes in the bottom of the CLEAR Shutters to line
up with the panels mates in your Channel. You will want
to drill the holes in the valleys of the CLEAR panels
or the ribbed areas that are closest to the wall (every
3 inches). (See instruction video for easy explanation).
Step 2-
If your panel mates are fixed to your Bottom Channel
skip step 3.
Step 3
- Slide panel mates into the bottom track equal to the
amount of holes drilled.
Step 4
- Insert the far left CLEAR panel into the Top Channel
flush left with the Top Channel. Angle the bottom down
and line the hole in the bottom of the CLEAR Shutter
on top of the panel mount in the tracking. Line up other
panels mates and secure with a rubber washer and a wing
nut. Always leave wing nuts off of over lapping panels
until both panels have been overlapped. Then install
1 wing nut over both panels with a rubber washer also
in between panels.
Panel Removal and Storage
Method
Openings mostly will
require multiple CLEAR panels for full coverage. We
mark your panels and tracking with your opening label
and mark the order in which the panels are to be installed
each time.
